Black Bass Post Spawn

Most of the black bass are done spawning and have moved off of their beds. This doesn’t mean they moved to deeper water. You can still catch a lot of large mouth right up next to the shore and in shallower water. Since most of them are done spawning those large females are pretty skinny now and have lost a couple pounds in the last few months. This is also one of the best times of the year to throw top water baits that imitate a wounded fish such as a spook or poppers. This time of year imitating shad is probably one of your best bets on hooking up under the water too. Crank baits, jerk baits, swim baits, Rat’l Traps are usually a good place to start if you’re iffy on what to throw.
