Answer: Warrant Officers and other personnel from Fort Wolters in Mineral
Wells utilized the facility until the base shut down. Afterwards, Fort Sill in Lawton,
Oklahoma used the rec center. Due to cost cutting efforts the government shut
down the facility in the early 90’s. What remains of the former rec center is the
HQ building that is now Bonitaville restaurant, the bachelor quarters, and the
water tower on the side of the hill along FM 2951. Today the site has a restaurant,
realty office, rental cottages, marina with boat and kayak rentals, gas dock, and a
RV park.
