Bryce Gentry, owner and creator of the Possum Kingdom Lake Reporter, has graciously allowed me to share stories and quirky trivia about Possum Kingdom Lake. My collections of personal observations and research led me to publish Possum Kingdom Journals – Volume I & II and the Guide to the Hiking and Biking Trails of the Carbonate Cross Timbers of Texas. The column will contain snippets of those stories based on fact, fiction, legends, and plain ol’ lies found in these books as well as other stories relating to the lake area.

The Latest From Kevin
The PK Chamber of Commerce has continued the tradition of
Miles before reaching the lake from the east, a high point on the horizon
comes into view. The natural feature is known as McAdams Peak serving as a landmark letting you know that you have almost made it to Possum Kingdom Lake. Even at nigh-time, the peak guides the way to PK with its large illuminated cross that can be seen from quite a distance. Seeing the cross during the day or night beckons you a friendly welcome to PK Lake.
In the early 90’s the PK Chamber sponsored an annual Splash Day on the second Saturday in June at one of the public use areas. This traditional rite of summer is still used today to promote the opening of community swimming pools and water parks around the country. The most popular site was North D&D. After the slow winter season local merchants were eager to get folks back to the lake.
